Asked the Head Sushi Chef to make a Sushi Platter that we took to a Birthday Party on August 26. It was beautiful, and the Chef picked out a special selection of sushi rolls that were delicious. It was a big hit!! Everything was devoured within 20 minutes!!

I went there yesterday evening for dinner with friends. Great food and great service. Take note of Happy Hour, 5pm to 7pm :-)

Its located across the highway from most of the shops and stores, so is tricky to find. Its in a little strip mall with a V's barber shop and a Flame Broiler. Place wasn't busy when we went and we got a table quickly. Staff were polite and professional. The food wasn't the absolute best I've had, but was certainly better than a lot I have. Will probably return in the future. Happy with my experience there.

My husband and I felt like having California Rolls for lunch and after a quick search on Yelp, found this restaurant listed and it was fairly close to RSM, so we gave it a try. SO GLAD WE DID! It was a Saturday and very quiet there -- patrons at only two other tables. It is a small, stylish place with comfortable seating. We ordered California Rolls and Philly Rolls as well as an order of Yaki Soba with chicken. For those who love sushi, they have quite an extensive menu of sushi selections. I love Yaki Soba and they offer four varieties. The California and Philly rolls were EXCELLENT! The Yaki Soba with chicken was also EXCELLENT! The chicken tasted like it had been grilled and the dish also included mushrooms which were very tasty. We definitely will go again and are happy we gave it a try. We'd been looking for a good Japanese restaurant and now we know of one!

So delicious! Fresh seafood that melts in your mouth, delicious recipes (great rolls and side dishes), and excellent service. Also, the place looks amazing, very nice ambiance, and is very clean. While it's a bit out of the way for us, we try to go as often as we can because it's definitely one of the best sushi places around.

  • *****

My husband and I had dinner here Wed evening and LOVED it. Great atmosphere, great service, great tasting, FRESH sushi. We were actually a bit hesitant to go at first because we have another sushi place we love; however, this place is closer so we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did. You just can't beat the Happy Hour prices either. Great job Ahi Ahi - we will definitely be back.

Had a business lunch here yesterday. It was my first visit to this restaurant. I really enjoyed the sushi and thought the service was very good. Our drinks never went empty and the sushi chefs were always ready for our order.

  • *****

Excellent service! Fresh fish with just the right seasoning. Tea was tasty and the chefs were friendly. Definitely returning here. Try the sushi bar!

  • *****

Love their sushi and modern decor. Great place to meet friends for lunch. I gave it 4 stars because they are a bit pricey.

  • *****

This restaurant is amazing! Freshest seafood I've ever had... Also a nice Happy Hour menu at very reasonable prices.

  • *****

The freshest sushi in OC for sure! We come here at least once a month. At the sushi bar, Shim is the man to see. Always very friendly and food is delicious.

  • *****

This was our first time at Ahi Ahi and we really enjoyed it. We ordered 3 rolls (rainbow, lobster, and yellowtail) and they were all excellent! The portions were big and the sushi was great. The service was great, very polite and attentive and the sushi that they recommended was awesome. We brought a bottle of wine so I can't comment about the drinks. The only thing that I didn't like was that it was pretty noisy, seems like they need something to deaden the sound a bit. Other than that, no complaints. We will definitely be back.

I eat here often for both lunch and dinner and have never had a bad meal. Sushi and sashimi are always fresh and well prepared. Misoyagi appetizer is excellent. It can get a tad pricey, but it's worthwhile compared to many of the local alternatives. Friendly staff, quiet and good for conversation. Not the spot if you're looking for sake bombs and the like. Best in the area.

Excellent service, food is okay, price is fair

My boyfriend and I tired this place for the first time Friday night and really enjoyed it! The fish was very fresh and the rolls we tried were delicious. However, the place is small so it can get packed and the tables are pretty close together. I think your best bet is to get a seat at the bar.

  • *****

Visited Ahi Ahi for first time on Friday, we had...

spicy tuna roll - perfect ratio of fish/rice, tuna tasted super fresh
Unagi sushi - might be the best I've had so far, super fresh and well prepared
    Halibut Sushi - super fresh
Shishito peppers - a little under cooked, but tasty
Seabass appetizer - good portion, very tasty but a little more firm/cooked than we prefer.

Service was attentive, liked the cozy atmosphere and we plan to return!

We just moved to Trabuco Canyon from Portland and are looking for good restaurants. We tried Ahi Ahi first and were surprised that it was mostly empty at 6 p.m. I think it's relatively new. The sashimi is good, not great but fresher than most. My wife doesn't care for sashimi or even sushi so she had some chicken teriyaki, which she said was very good. Big portions. Reasonable prices. We'll be back!

Made reservations for 7pm, when we arrived the places was slammed, but our table was ready. The staff was working very hard but it was clear that they where understaffed by about 2 servers. We had to wait for drinks and to take our order. With that said the staff did their best even though they where short handed. Our food arrived (after a longer than normal wait) but it was fresh and hot and could not have been better. The staff tried there best to stay up with the crowed and always apologized when they did make it to our table. Over all a good dinner and will return. Hopefully next time they will have a few more servers.

I love that this place is right around the corner from my house! The sushi is always fresh! The Toro and Monkfish liver are awesome! When we walk in, there's always a spot for us and the staff remembers our 'usual' orders. Excellent service from the servers and sushi chefs!

  • *****

Fantastic food and really cool decor. I started with a tall Sapporo and the ahi tuna salad... then the spicy yellowtail tataki roll. This probably makes me biast but they were playing my favorite Sirius radio station, "Coffee House" which made the mood really laid back...perfect for lunch. I will defiantly be back!

  • *****

I went to Ahi Ahi Sushi Bar for the first today and I was very impressed! I had the Spicy Salmon roll (which was pretty spicy) and the Catapillar role. Both were very tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is on the pricy side.

  • *****

what a great little place I got introduced to by a friend that treated for dinner. Their Chilean Sea Bass was amazing and the Japanese Pasta dish was off the hook. Definitely coming back and I'm not a huge Japanese fan, but this changed my tune.

  • *****

A wonderful gem in Foothill Ranch. Melt in your mouth sushi, wonderful service, and beautiful atmosphere...what more could you want?

  • *****

This place was very good a bit hidden but I found it through Verizon navigator. Excellent Toro fantastic monk fish liver very well prepared monkfish liver is actually on the menu. I recommend this to everybody you like sushi you happen to be in this part of Lake Forest.

  • *****

Very good and reasonably priced! Especially during Happy Hour which is 7 days of the week, not just Mon-Fri. Sit at the bar and talk with the sushi chefs. They'll tell you what is best for the day.

  • *****

Ahi Ahi is a very good place to eat. Your wait is narrowed to about 5 minutes. Their Tempera, Sashimi and combo are great. If you are really hungry and need a quick meal, Ahi Ahi is a GREAT place to eat.

Came in for lunch with the wife. We came in during happy hour which was a nice surprise. I didn't get the happy hour times I just know it ends at 7pm. We ordered a couple beers which came out super quick and frosty. After the beers arrived we ordered shrimp tempura and a California roll to start. The shrimp was perfect and came out in a timely manner. The California roll was your standard cali roll nothing special there. After the starters we ordered a shrimp crunch roll and a salmon avocado roll with 4 pieces of salmon sushi. The crunch roll was really good. My wife said the salmon avocado roll was alright, and we both agreed that the salmon sushi perfect. The salmon sushi was melt in your mouth, that perfect buttery texture you expect in great sushi. Overall the experience was good, the sushi was amazing, the rolls were just above average, and the service was exceptional. Besides the plain rolls the cost is kind of expensive even at happy hour.

  • *****

One of the better sushi restaurants in Foothill Ranch. The service is excellent. The decor is modern with a good clean vibe for ambience. Try something that's not pedestrian and you'll be delighted. They also have reasonable prices.

  • *****

I stumbled upon this place when I was looking for a local sushi bar. I was very very presently surprised by what I found. This place is AWESOME. I will be back as often as my paycheck lets me!

  • *****

This place is very good for their sushi and sashimi. As an modern style bar, I don't expect they can make real delicious sashimi, but they did. Also good environment their. They are one of the best sushi bars in Lake Forest.

  • *****

Went there for dinner last night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The decor was great, the service fast (I have to hand it to the waitress, she *never* let my iced tea go empty, and I am a notoriously fast drinker.) The sushi was good - big portions, great presentation, and more fish vs. rice in the rolls. Everything was fresh and tasted great. We will definitely be back.

  • *****

This is Simply the BEST SUSHI in Foothill Ranch Executive Chef Richard Wu Rocks the House Again!

The selection of daily specials is great, all the fish is fresh, and there is a great attention to details in the presentation whether it is sushi, sashimi, or their unique sushi rolls.

This place is an wonderful, you will not be disappointed!

  • *****

Fresh sushi, had great salmon plate and spicy tuna crackers (fried crispy seaweed and rice, topped with spicy tuna and avocado) yummm. The staff is fast, accommodating and gives friendly service. The only draw back is the price it is a bit on the high side for lunch ($23 food only, no drink), but I haven't tried their happy hour prices?!

  • *****

Great little sushi restaurant. Had the red dragon roll. Well done and fresh. Avocado tuna roll and spicy shrimp rolls were wonderful. Reasonably priced and attentive service with decent saki selection. Unusual location but cozy and nice inside. Pleasant surprise for being Foothill Ranch.

  • *****

I've been anxious to try this place, and I'm so glad I did. The staff is awesome, and the sushi was fantastic. I had ... if I remember correctly... a roll called a Sexy Salmon Roll. And oh, man... it was FANTASTIC! I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere of the place is great too. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff there... which is great because they have a LOT on their menu.

My wife had chicken teriyaki and she loved it. All in all a great place and I will definitely be back!!! So glad Foothill Ranch has some great sushi!

My family and I dined here on Thursday night. GREAT SUSHI, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE and they carry authentic items and a wide variety of fresh fish.

We were more than satisfied with the quality of sushi and the service. Kevin was our sushi chef and he was knowledgable and friendly throughout the 2 hours we dined at the sushi bar. They have home made sauces, homemade specialty items like monk fish liver and were very artistic in the preparations.

We were so eager to go back and enjoy the dining experience, we made a reservation on our way out of the restaurant for the coming Saturday evening. Looking forward to returning this evening and trying even more of their menu items.

Make a note that if you get there during happy hour (4-7 I believe), they have a big selection on that menu as well including drinks.

  • *****

Totally my new sushi go to place. Wasabi has gone down hill with horrible service m. Ahi ahi rocks!

  • *****

Food is great! They have unique specials and the pricing is perfect. Sushi is definitely above average, but not high quality. This wouldn't be where you go for an authentic japanese meal, but a solid restaurant none the less. My family is a fan of the Misoyaki Seabass and Scallop Dynamite combo dinners, and the dressing on the side salad is delicious. The first evening we ate here the service was awesome, we had a great server who made confident recommendations... but the last time our server was slow, forgetful and unenthusiastic. We will definitely return and hope to have better luck with the service!

  • *****

This place is pretty consistent and their sushi is always very tasty. I usually stick to sashimi and their poke bowl. They're usually pretty quick and I can rely on them for take-out or dine in for lunch in Lake Forest.

  • *****

This place is always excellent. The food quality and presentation are top shelf. We had a bit of slow service the last time we went in and we're not quite sure what caused it as some sushi chefs were not doing anything but it was a minor inconvenience. The staff is always friendly and the food is the best. We will be back often.

  • *****

My family are from Japan and we like this place. There's only a few spots in lake forest/foothill that I'd go to as a repeat customer. Costa Mesa/Newport/fountain valley have five star $$$ sushi places in my opinion but this place is close for us and the food is great and priced fair.
Lots of authentic stuff on the menu as well as Americanized stuff too. I like both so this place rocks. Good sushi if u like common things like salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and rolls. I wouldn't recommend items like ikura or uni though.
Foothill ranch businesses have taken depressing hits. I hope this place makes it...

  • *****

Fresh sushi, the right temperature, contemporary/modern vibe and great service. Nice find in OC. I thought I would never find a decent sushi place in OC that rivals places in South Bay or Little Tokyo.

Get the Sweet Shrimp...because this is a rare menu item in OC.

This has a bit of everything so you can't go wrong here.

  • *****

The speciality rolls here are amazing. The crunchy lobster and spicy yellowtail tataki were our favorites.

  • *****

I usually go here for lunch with my co-workers. If I'm in the mood for sushi or rolls I order the white tuna sushi. I also like the Lunch Special Bento box combination. The red snapper tempura is tasty along with the Salmon Cheek Shioyaki. I surprised how much meat I was able to get from the Salmon cheek.

For dessert I recommend the Banana Fritter with Vanilla Ice Cream and House Made Special Caramel sauce. It's big enough to share (even with co-workers).

  • *****

I enjoyed the last sushi place that was at this location but this is a good replacement, if not better.

    Sushi was good

Service was great, waitress was very ice, friendly and helpful (I think her name was Karen?)

    I will definitely be back.

  • *****

Loved it! This place was really good, it's a little in the pricey side but well worth it "you get what you pay for". I recommend the happy hour and the red dragon crunch roll (not on happy hour but worth every penny)! Great service as well!

  • *****

I love this place! Great food and great service. Good for people that don't like sushi too since they have bento boxes, tempura etc. Parking is a pain though. The large parking lot is crowed all the time.

  • *****

Me and my girlfriend came here one night to feast on the flesh of succulent sea critters and were very pleased with the amount of fish served per roll. The quality of the sushi was on par with good sushi places, and they don't skimp on the amount of fish on each roll, a definite plus.

The decor inside this place was very un-Japanese like, it seemed very contemporary (not a bad thing). The restaurant itself isn't that big but it isn't too small either, just a bit cramped in certain places. I would definitely consider coming back to Ahi Ahi Sushi Bar & Grill when I'm in the area again

  • *****

This is probably our "go to" sushi spot lately in Foothill Ranch. The service and food is always prepared with consistency. And it's always been good. It's a bit pricier than most places it seems. My wife and I can't ever leave with a two digit bill. We go there once a month or so. I would recommend it.

  • *****

Very good food friendly staff maybe their not the most knowledgeable but I still come back

  • *****

Great food and service. One of our favorite sushi spots! My personal fave is the yellowtail jalapeo carpaccio!

  • *****

A friend suggested coming here for lunch as we were both craving sushi really badly. I tend to prefer high-protein meals at lunch as carbs often leave me feeling drowsy for the remainder of the work day. I therefore usually get sashimi at sushi places along with a salad and/or edamame. What's great about this place, though, is they offer sashimi rolls. Yes, ROLLS. They use a thin layer of soy paper to contain the sashimi, which means it's easy for me to dunk into my wasabi/soy sauce. I've never really been to place before that offered sashimi rolls (not cucumber wrappers), so for a high-protein eater, this place was perfect for me. We arrived at about 1:15pm on a Friday and were seated right away. Our servers were polite. I've seen some of the reviews here docking the service. I didn't experience mind-blowingly good service, but it wasn't horrible either. I'd say it's average. The environment is modern, comfortable, and relaxing.

    Here's what I ordered:

Sea salt edamame: $3.50 (nice large portion size)
Salmon sashimi: $10.50 for 7 pieces
    Sashimi roll: $13.50

Yeah, it's more money than most people would spend for lunch. But it's sashimi. I think an occasional splurge once in a while on something delicious is OK. I'm glad I've finally found my local "occasional splurge" place :)

Today a group of coworkers had Ahi Ahi for lunch. they have lunch specials and this is the way to go. the lunch bento box is so good. Way to much food. Prices are pretty expensive if you do not do the lunch menu but that is typical for sushi in s. cal. the service was okay. the server argued with us about ice tea. very strange since he said that drinks were free with the lunch special. Worked as a server for 8 years before becoming a nurse. first thing you learn as a server, is that the customer is always right. however in the end he did take off the tea, so we will be coming back.

The green tea dessert is amazing

  • *****

Food and service was good. We sat at the sushi bar but unfortunately the sushi chef wasn't as fun and upbeat. Don't get me wrong he made good sushi and was nice but not as friendly as he could be. From my experience, the best sushi chefs not only make good food but also get to know their customers.

  • *****

Ahi Ahi was wonderful. I had the veggie roll, vegetable tempura, miso soup, salad and green tea ice cream. All of it was yummy!!! Great service and atmosphere.

  • *****

Out of my expectation! Taste fresh and authentic! It is much than other Sushi place with similar price.

  • *****

I've been customer here for two years, and to date, nothing I've ordered disappointed.

Their rolls are very consistent; there are a few that I get repetitively and the experience is always great. Additionally, their sushi so fresh, you can taste the freshness in their rolls. If you're a sushi fan, you'll definitely taste the difference compared to cheaper alternatives.

Finally, their service is great, I've never had to ask for a refill, which is great!!

Great place for good sushi at a reasonable price, with a friendly staff and nice environment.

  • *****

Very good sushi experience. enjoyed the sashimi roll, albacore and yellow tail hamachi. Looking forward to trying a few more items next time I go.

  • *****

Food delicious, full of flavor and service excellent. Waitress knows her job and very helpful with recommendations. Happy hour 5 - 7 PM well worth dining early.

We ordered appetizers; jalapeno lobster tempura, avocado stuffed with crab, and popcorn shrimp with a bottle of the house white wine. All dishes were tasty with the right amount of spice and well presented.

Located in a shopping strip mall. Tables a little close together so no real privacy but restaurant is clean and presentable. This will definitely be a restaurant for repeat dining. Very good.

  • *****

Normally we don't see pasta on the menu at a sushi restaurant, but here at Ahi Ahi they got it! I had the Seafood Japanese pasta, which has baby lobster, clams, and scallops in creamy sauce; it was fantastic! Not only that it has all my favorite ingredients, but the sauce is also very good.
We also tried a couple of their sashimi, the Red Snapper was great! With a hint of yuzu paste on it, brought out the sweetness and freshness of the fish. And their Ameabi (sweet shrimp) was also very good. I gotta say I haven't had a decent one for a long time. It is fresh and sweet, and they deep fried the head for you as well.

  • *****

One of my favorite local Sushi places, it's not that "club like" feeling sushi places, it's one of those chill and very cozy places.

Good ambience and good chefs... Price was great and happy hour was good.

Overall experience was awesome and would definitely come again for happy and hour and chill time.

  • *****

The best sushi in the Lake Forest area! Love their bento boxes for lunch, and the sushi is very tasty.

  • *****

I'm so not a sushi kind of person because I can't eat raw fish, seared ok, completely raw no way! Portions were good, food was fresh and nothing beats happy hour prices from 5-7.

  • *****

They have outstanding service ! You really feel like they're taking care of you throughout dinner. The crunch roll was amazing and dry sake and beer was delicious and went really well with our meal. They also let us take our time when deciding our meal and drinks instead of hurrying us out the door. Really liked their staff and deliciously fresh sushi. Highly recommend them !

  • *****

One of my favorite sushi spots! They're a little pricey with great quality fish. I will definitely pay the extra bucks to have real crab meat instead of imitation crab, and the fish quality has alway been beyond good! Love this place staff has always been welcoming and nice. It's alway clean and fresh from any fishy smells!

  • *****

Very fresh fish. Service was a bit slow despite having a full team to serve. Price was good for a sushi restaurant. We will be back

  • *****

The food was absolutely amazing! So much food for the price. The restaurant is very cool looking inside as well! Very classy and sophisticated for the design! The place is kid friendly and the staff is so very kind and friendly as well. So glad that we decided to come here for dinner! Would highly recommend trying! Great food and a great price with even better service!

  • *****

I had the California roll and mixed tempura. Just average, about the same you'd get anywhere else. Wife had the sushi sampler and fresh eel roll. Again, about what you'd expect at just about any sushi place. Nice decor inside. It was cold outside and when ever another customer walked in we'd get a burst of cold air.

Prompt service. Had a happy hour on the weekend that went to 7pm so we saved a few bucks.

I'd go back if I was in the area and wanted sushi but nothing special that would make me drive out of my way to go there if there was a closer sushi restaurant. They all seem pretty much the same.

  • *****

Awesome little gem! My bf was on business trip and we stayed at a hotel a block away and decided to try this place. Service was phenomenal, food was great, and happy hour was awesome! The decor and entire restaurant was clean. If we are ever back in the area, we are definitely coming back!

  • *****

My daughter and I have made this our regular Monday night sushi date! We love to sit at the very comfortable and awesomely decorated sushi bar. Both of the sushi chefs are talented and super nice. They always remember us.
My husband took my daughter in my place a couple times and he loved it just as much.
Don't miss their Happy Hour drinks and menu Sun-Thurs 5-7pm!

  • *****

Since moving to south county we've been on the lookout for a sushi spot worth coming back to and Ahi Ahi fits the bill. They have a great happy hour Sunday-Thursday with plenty of options. Food is fresh and staff is friendly (for the most part, there is one younger gal who always seems annoyed by our large party) we have found Ahi Ahi to be kid friendly as well with many happy hour choices for the littles including popcorn chicken and tempura. Overall I would recommend for good, fresh sushi in a casual environment.

  • *****

Really good restaurant! My boyfriend and I ordered an albacore carpaccio ($14), a two-item dinner combination ($20) and udon in a clay pot ($11). The food was great; however not sure if it justifies the somewhat high price. But still, service was excellent and food came out quickly. The ambiance inside the restaurant was really nice and am definitely considering coming back again.

  • *****

Last minute we decided we wanted sushi so we'd thought we'd try a new place. I thought the sushi was very delicious as well as the tempura. The prices are a tad higher than my liking but they do offer good product. Super clean and modern on the inside is s plus. I'll probably visit again.

  • *****

During lunch a poke salad will set you back $13 and a large poke bowl will set you back $12. I asked them to make my salad spicy and it was so spicy and very good! I was satisfied by the assortment of sashimi and the slices of avocado. Pretty pricey in my opinion but the service was good and my meal was delicious.

  • *****

Special roll made-- it was to die for! California roll with salmon and tuna on top. With thinly sliced lemon, and white onions with ponzu save. Delicious!!!

  • *****

When we go out for sushi, this is our rock solid, go-to place. Always fresh. Gyoza is one of the best I have ever had.

  • *****

My sushi journey has had many ups and downs, but Ahi turned out to be my happy ending.

The pinnacle of my journey involved amazing hole-in-the-walls just a few miles in any direction from my apartment in Long Beach. I was downtrodden in Irvine until my favorite place was resurrected as O Fine. After I put on my big girl pants and bought a place back in Trabuco Canyon, I thought I was lost once again (why did I not consider the local sushi selection in my search?!?!). Enter Ahi (and many of my favorite chefs from O).

My husband and I are now regulars at Ahi. We generally sit up at the bar, order nigiri to our hearts content, and sip on hot sake whilst debating politics and social issues. Branzino, ocean trout, red snapper, and aji (when available-more aji please!) are the major players of our dining experience. They delight our tastebuds throughout the evening, and dance in our dreams while we are away.

If you're back by the canyons and in need of sushi (because really sushi is a need not just a want), Ahi is your best bet for delicious fishes.

  • *****

We are visiting from Seattle and were skeptical since our seafood quality is so high but Ahi Ahi competes with some of the best quality sushi restaurants in the Pacific Northwest. Our trips to Orange County will always include a trip to Ahi Ahi.

  • *****

In town to visit niece, she brought me here and I loved the new cozy vibe. Very fresh food, very attentive friendly service. Loved the upbeat energy with help picking items.

  • *****

Great local sushi spot. Happy hour until 7. Friendly staff and intimate atmosphere. If you're looking for quality sushi in the foothill area, definitely go here!

  • *****

I go here every Monday with my friend Tina and we absolutely love it. Our sushi chef Winson is great he knows our order and is very helpful and kind. The whole staff here is amazing and really provides quality service and are extremely attentive. The food is great ! I've been to so many sushi places around Orange County and they have quality sushi at a great price. I always feel fulfilled when going here!

  • *****

Foothill Ranch Roll---my fav! With REAL crab. So good!

  • *****

This place is amazing with high quality, fresh fish. I like good, authentic sushi, not fancy rolls with lots of sauce, and this place really delivers. If you're an uni lover, they will not disappoint.

  • *****

This is the best Japanese restaurant in Foothill Ranch. Although there is little options in Foothill this restaurant is a decent place to eat it. The food is not bad and I highly reccomend going during their happy hour. The food is aberage and the staff is very friendly. If you are around the area and want Japanese food this is the place to visit.

  • *****

This was the best sushi I've had. Had the lobster snow crab roll and it was loaded with popcorn lobster. A very generous amount for a rather decent price considering it was lobster!! We had 7 or 8 rolls and all were fabulous.

They were great and quick and getting us our food! Favorite place this trip! Small restaraunt but they've done a great job making it modern for a strip mall.

  • *****

Excellent Happy Hour menu and options (Sun -Thurs 5-7pm). Ahi Ahi is my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Lake Forest area (not for sushi; more for comfort food).

From the Happy Hour menu, we've had their agedashi tofu, tempura, shishito peppers, mackerel and various yakitori skewers. We usually order a side of rice with these items and enjoy quite a feast.

I recently tried their ramen and it was excellent. The soup was well flavored and the noodles were cooked perfectly (slightly chewy rather than mushy or overcooked). This made me exceedingly happy. It also came with several generous pieces of pork.

The sushi was just okay. The fish was fresh enough, but the sushi rice tasted slightly off balance. I would probably stick to their rolls.

Bottom line: average sushi; excellent everything else.

  • *****

This is our favorite sushi place in the area. We've tried pretty much everything on the menu but favorites are:
    - popcorn lobster appetizer
    - shishito peppers appetizer
    - any of the nigiri sushi but particularly the albacore and yellowtail hamachi
    - spicy yellowtail tataki roll
    - TNT roll
    - ahi tataki sashimi

Everything tastes very fresh, the chefs do a great job with the presentations. We've been here about half a dozen times so far and have always had a good experience. It's our go-to local sushi place.

  • *****

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the area! I bring my employees here once a month for a team lunch. Quick service - perfect for a work lunch. They also offer take-out if you call ahead and want to pick up. The Bento Box Lunch Special is my go-to!

  • *****

I encourage you to make the drive and take a seat at this restaurant! The workers are unbelievable and the food is extremely fresh and tasty!!!

  • *****

Love this place! Great fresh sushi, chefs are awesome and service is very good. Great cooked food too for my wife.

Great place. Would've given them five stars but the prices were a bit higher than most similar level places. Large sushi menu selection (lots of speciality roll selection, with great descriptions of each, unlike most places).

    Decent happy hour menu.

But to top everything off, I haven't been to a sushi place with such amazing customer service. Our water was refilled appropriately, smiling servers, friendly sushi chefs, and friendly staff! That itself deserves a +1 star.

  • *****

Place is great. Awesome to find a new sushi place finally. We've tried a bunch and there are very few that are really good. Had the T.N.T. Roll, Spicy Yellowtail Tataki Roll, and a Spicy Yellowtail cut roll.

They have Green Mussels, which means this place is legit as hell. Very few restaurants have them. Would recommend to others and we will be back!

  • *****

Great spot. Great food. Great service. The Chefs are great. Selection is always fresh. Their sushi roll menu is the most creative I have found. Can't go wrong here.

  • *****

We live around the corner from Ahi Ahi and have become repeat customers. We love the TNT roll but all of their rolls are very fresh and tasty. What I love is that this place is never overly crowded, there's never a wait and the quality of food is consistent.

  • *****

Great place would have gave it 5 stars but there's small things I didn't like. 1 of them was there was this Asian man with a short sleeve grey work shirt walking around with his arms cross like he was patrolling. I'm guessing he was the manager. The happy hour was great and there was a really nice Hispanic waiter talking to people and making the place more lively as you would want but everyone was so uptight even the waitress took forever to wait on us and it wasn't busy but luckily that one guy was there picking up plates and making sure everyone was ok so because of him alone I changed my stars from a 3 to a 4. Other than the other staff with no personality the food and drinks were very good.

  • *****

I love Ahi Ahi. I have never been disappointed in the quality of their sashimi. We get the toro, yellow tail belly and the salmon Carpaccio... all 3 are very fresh and excellent.

I have never tried the bento boxes but this place sure fills up at lunchtime so they must be doing something right.

    Keep it up Ahi Ahi!!

  • *****

Great over all. Only lost out on 5 stars from me due to my order being forgotten and thus coming out very late. But the food quality is very high, the dish ware, ambiance/vibe is very cool. I was impressed. I will give service another chance but will most likely become my new favorite for Japanese food in my area.

  • *****

5 stars for lunch, 3 stars for dinner = 4 stars. Love their bento box for lunch, but unfortunately they don't offer them at dinner.

  • *****

I can not say enough great things about this place. First off I live around the area so I've been to the other sushi place by the theater and it's nothing compared to this place. The service here is amazing and not just by one person the whole crew is amazing ! They are fast and attentive and give you exactly what you order. They come by to refill your drink on cue ! They remove plates and check on you in such a timely manner . The rolls are so fresh and delicious ! I'm hands down coming here all time for sushi ! Let's just say that I was so impressed by everything that everyone got a tip - server, sushi ninja lol, and the bus boy.

  • *****

The Avocado Volcano and Spicy Calamari were amazing. I was in gastro heaven. The Cucumber Sushi roll was ok and the grilled salmon salad was really good. I have to limit my carbs and their menu accommodates everyone. Love their food.

== LUNCH REVIEW AT TABLE ONLY ==
Usually I like to dine at a restaurant couple of times before writing a review. But there's always an exception! I must say Ahi Ahi so far exceeded my expectations especially being in this little town that is sooooo far inland.

I am impressed by the service, clean, modern interior design, knowledgable staff, comfort of my dining, and the grub. Although for lunch price can be a bit on a pricier end (depends what you order) but to me it's worth it to pay to have an comfy & delicious lunch!

    :: FOOD ::

    CHILEAN SEABASS SHIOYAKI (5/5)
    - The seabass absolutely melts in your mouth! Amazing flavor.

    LUNCH ITEM LUNCH COMBO/BENTO
-- The bento box i had consisted of miso soup, field green salad, slices of pickles, kabocha (nicely cooked & tasty Japanese pumpkin), gyoza, soda or tea & choice of white or brown rice.

I had the pleasure of tasting the following items:
    (1) SALMON SHIOYAKI (5/5)
    - nicely cooked, not dry, lightly seasoned & came in a very decent portion.
Additional tentsuyu sauce (I believe) with grated daikon was included as
well & it gave the salmon a pleasant light punch to it. Beautiful grill marks!
    (2) SPICY BEEF (5/5)
    - I thought it was delicious & full of flavor. The spciy beef came with sliced &
cooked mushrooms & onions. This dish had just a slight of spice to it.
    (3) TERRIYAKI BEEF (4.5/5)
    - I recommend asking the beef to be cooked medium or medium rare - so it
turns out tender & juicy. The only negative I have is that there's a tad bit to
much terriyaki sauce - so i suggest ya ask them to tone it down a little.
    (4) GINGER BEEF (4.5/5)
    - Very decent sized slices of beef over a bed of fresh green lettuce. Very tasty
& not super ginger-ish taste. It was just right!

    :: NOTES ::

    1) Table & Bar seatings available
    2) Brown rice option available (not extra cost when ordering Lunch Bento)8
    3) Not so good for groups bigger than 6-8 ppl - place is not super big.

Amazing service and quality of food is superb! Try the bluefish toro it melts in your mouth!! It's Market price at $12 sushi and $40 something for sashimi. Worth every penny! Chef Shi was an amazing host and chef. It was our first time here and definitely not our last.

  • *****

Love coming here for the foothill ranch roll and/or the TNT roll! Both are just so yummy and always taste super fresh!

  • *****

I love this place. Great service and great food. I love their happy hour. My daughter definitely enjoys the California rolls. She customize it by adding masago on top. Very yummy. My favorite is the baked lobster roll. Lots of pieces of succulent lobster and asparagus. We both love the miso soup and edemame for our appetizers. The staff is very friendly and prompt. Great little spot

  • *****

The sushi here is so fresh and yummy. Unexpectedly good for a strip mall location. But then again, this is OC and everyting is in a strip mall. The chefs are always accomodating to any of my special requests. My daughter and I eat here so frequently now they have memorized her usual order--always a plus.

Their happy hour is awesome! So many things on the happy hour menu.

I've tried the bento boxes and poke salads as well. No complaints.

Hope they will be around for a long long time to come.

  • *****

We were in here once a week prior to my wife getting pregnant, but I can still sometimes get her to go and order non-raw fish items. They have a great big happy hour menu and the food here is outstanding, very fresh fish and real snow crab. Love the yaki sticks, avocado volcano, lettuce roll, soy paper hand rolls. Everything we've had we loved. It's a small restaurant but worth the wait if you have to.

  • *****

Just came around lunch time on a Friday for the first time and it was so delicious. Definitely busy but we were seated immediately at the sushi bar. The staff and sushi chefs were extremely efficient and friendly. We ordered a crunchy shrimp roll, sexy salmon roll, and unagi. All were very fresh and soo delicious. The staff was quick to clear dishes out of the way as well as refill our water without us requesting. I would absolutely recommend this place and come again.

  • *****

The place is really nice ans clean. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The establishment is a bit small but can accommodate large groups. The food was great. Really nice Teriyaki bowl. The miso soup wasalright. Service could be faster. Overall great place to go for lunch

We eat at Ahi Ahi at least twice a week. Service is outstanding and the food is the freshest we have ever had! If you like rolls , they use real crab meat. My husband and I prefer sashimi and the cucumber sashimi roll always does the trick. I've waited to write a review because we were afraid that they would get too busy, haha! Price is on point for the outstanding quality of the food. We always look forward to going there and I can honestly say that isn't true for a lot of restaurants we've tried since we moved here 2 years ago. Thanks Ahi Ahi. ..See you soon!

  • *****

The sushi chef is talented and a delight to watch. The presentation is impressive and the seafood very fresh. We were very impressed by this suburban sushi restaurant.

  • *****

By far our favorite sushi restaurant! You can taste the quality and freshness in their food, and the have great service. We haven't ordered something we didn't like. Highly recommend the Sexy Salmon and TNT rolls! And our 1 year old loves the Avocado Volcano! You won't be disappointed.

  • *****

I'll definitely be back here! I had the Crunchy Salmon Tataki roll, Sexy Salmon roll, & the pan seared pork gyoza. All 3 were super delicious & fresh & I also loved the variety of sauces they came with. Overall, very yummy & reasonably priced.

  • *****

Great lunch pricing with good size portions. The basic food was so good that we splurged ing the blue fin tuna at $28.00 that day. That dish was awesome but we will probably not do it again~ till a special occasion of course.

Service was always good and if I hadn't lost my Waller there it would have been even better. Hope it never gets too busy but it probably will soon.

  • *****

Great sushi. Got 4 plates during happy hour for about $32 (not including tip). It is on the smaller side and was very busy! Loved the spicy shrimp roll.

  • *****

First time here and I was very happy with the selections and service. Arrived at noon on a Friday, sushi bar was open and we did not have to wait. Tables were full however. We had three different rolls and all were extraordinary. I will definitely be back!

  • *****

Love this sushi bar! Excellent service, great friendly and knowledgeable staff. The sushi is always fresh and beautifully presented. I should say sushi, rolls, and sashimi. I've never been disappointed here. Excellent and super friendly staff. They know how to take care of their customers. Thank you again for a great meal. I will be back

It's often said that you don't find what you are looking for when you are searching for it. We were looking for sushi in Foothill Ranch with no luck. However, we stumbled upon Ahi Ahi out of the corner of my eye and we were happy to find it was still open!

We decided on hot teas. I had the ginger miso dressing salad and a sexy salmon roll. My friend had miso soup and a salmon salad. Service was really friendly and quick! The sexy salmon roll was REALLY good!

Since we were there so close to closing, I didn't get to add to my order. I'll be back for sure!

  • *****

I really love the lunch special option, which makes you full and satisfied by providing complementary Miso soup, salad and rice! The salmon cheek is my favorite.

  • *****

My husband and I recently stubbled upon this little gem. I absolutely love the decor and atmosphere in there. We had great service and the sushi is great. They have many different rolls to pick from. We will definitely be back :)

  • *****

The happy hour is a must from 5-7 pm. Beer, wine and a lot of variety in terms of sashimi and rolls. The rolls we tried were the traditional california, spicy tuna, jalapeo yellowtail, along with some rolls that aren't a part of happy hour the sea bass cooked and the rainbow. All delicious! Definitely great prices, nice ambiance and great services, I will be back.

  • *****

Best sushi ever! Everything we ordered was amazing!are very picky & this is the only place in the area we will go. Every single thing we ordered was perfectly presented & delicious! Very nice servers & chefs! So happy to have this nearby!

This is a very popular lunch spot in the Foothill Ranch area of Lake Forest. It can get very busy on a weekday so I suggest arriving around 11:45 am to avoid the rush.

They have a large selection of bento style set lunches, and you also have the option to add a second entre for only a few dollars extra.

The bento lunches that we ordered came with a salad, pickled vegetables, a wedge of boiled pumpkin, a gyoza, and a generous serving of steamed rice.

The tonkatsu was excellent. The panko breading was thin and light, and the pork cutlet was fried to perfection. The meat was tender and juicy, and I really couldn't ask for anything better.

The traditional tangy tonkatsu dipping sauce came with a side of spicy Japanese yellow mustard. I highly recommend that you be bold, and mix the mustard into the sauce to give yourself an extra kick to the flavor. It's almost like adding wasabi to soy sauce, but the yellow mustard is much milder than wasabi.

The tempuras were good; the breading was very thin like it should be, and they were fried to perfection. It came with 2 shrimps and an assortment of veggies such as carrots, zucchini, etc. The dipping sauce was delicious.

Prices for lunch are about 10 - 20% higher than Irvine, but it's expected in Foothill Ranch. The good quality of the food and the large portions also justify the higher than average prices. Service was friendly and prompt. The ambience was nice and comfortable. Overall, it was an enjoyable lunch experience, and I'll be happy to grab another bento over there if I happen to be in the area again.

  • *****

Delicious fresh sushi. It is really small so expect a slight wait and large parties should call ahead.

I had the sashimi roll which consists of tuna, snow crab, salmon and caviar wrapped in rice paper. So flavorful!

The chefs are really friendly and fast. They create beautiful sushi plates. Delicious too!

  • *****

This is an amazing sushi place. Super fresh and clean! You can taste the quality in the food. Shin San is amazing! Would recommend 100%

  • *****

Easily some of the best food in Foothill Ranch. I wish I would have found this place earlier. I was so tired of the generic restaurants this neighborhood, but this place was AMAZING.

Also, the service was top notch. Never had to ask for a refill and food came out tiered which made for an extremely enjoyable.

    Thank you!

Visited on Sunday evening for Happy Hour!

Happy Hour on Drinks and a mixture of items including Edamame, Tempura Prawns, Gyoza ..

Service is prompt and efficient although slightly lacking in the smile factor. Guys behind the sushi counter were all very happy and smiling, however!

    Food was fresh and tasty

I like the interior of the place, modern and well set out

Would definitely go back and eat the Chicken Katsu Curry from the 'normal' menu. My favourite

I come here for lunch and I like the ambiance. They have good lunch selection and I liked they they have brown rice. I usually order chirashii and its ok for the price. But of course, my fave chirashii is at H2O in triangle square. The service is good.

  • *****

Great service and every bite was delicious; especially the Hawaiian role. Impressed that they had Cakebread on the wine list. No liquor but the beer was cold.

Went here for happy hour last night. We got the popcorn lobster (5/5) Seared scallops with garlic butter and tempura shiso leaf (5/5) Avocado dynamite (4/5) sashimi roll (3/5) and the seared yellowtail crunch roll (4/5)

The sashimi roll was good but the snow crab added an almost sand paper like texture to the roll which was undesirable. Wish they would maybe mix a little Japanese mayo in with it to help the texture a bit.

Seared yellowtail crunch was good but could have used a little more eel sauce to amp up the flavor a bit but overall this was good.

Avocado dynamite could use a little of that spicy mayo sauce served on the side of the popcorn lobster but overall it was good.

Popcorn lobster and seared scallop stole the show. So delicious. Highly recommend coming during happy hour. Well worth it

For a larger restaurant, it has a 'hole in the wall' feel and great sushi

  • *****

Fish is fresh, delicious, and skillfully prepared by real sushi chefs. The seating is comfortable and the restaurant is very clean. Service is the best! The staff refills my water, soda, and removes empty plates without me having to ask. Best sushi in OC I believe this place deserves 5 stars!

  • *****

This place always is a delight !
The flavors and freshness stands out, Don't be affraid to experiment. Their ramens are the best ,but the eel rolls are great too.
My 11 year old son is picky but loves this place....A++

Great sushi bar! The special rolls were fantastic. Staff was prompt and friendly for an out-of-towner / non-regular, which isn't always the case in sushi bars. Would definitely come again!

  • *****

This place is amazing! Dinner combo has a lot of items to choose from. Also, the service was excellent. My water never got below half way and every single employee was kind to us.
